For those Queasy Days…

Pregnancy can be a positive, life-altering process, but for some women morning sickness can take away from the fun and enjoyment. It doesn’t have to taint this time in your life though. Myrtle & Maude's products and services are designed to provide you support and nurturing during this pivotal moment. They are strong believers in the power of wellness and look to engage with and support those entering parenthood in the best way possible.

What is morning sickness?

The most common symptoms associated with morning sickness are nausea and vomiting, often caused by certain odours, heat and food. It’s not ideal, especially when you are coming to terms with a cocktail of hormones and your changing body. Did you know morning sickness is actually caused by hormones? It also affects more women than you might think, with 80% suffering with symptoms. Though they can start within your first month of pregnancy, normally they will clear up by your fourth!

Some women unfortunately suffer from something called Hyperemesis Gravidarum, a pregnancy complication that can cause severe nausea. Feeling faint can occur, and it can even lead to dehydration, something that requires medical assistance.

What is Acupressure?

Acupressure is an alternative medicine technique derived from Asia over 5000 years ago. Traditional Chinese Medical theory describes special acupressure points that lie along channels in your body. It works by stimulating the meridian system aide aid discomfort and to bring about relief. This theory is based on traditional Chinese Medicine and similar to acupuncture…. but without the Needles!

Myrtle & Maude’s acupressure wristbands use the principles of acupressure to counteract feelings of an upset tummy, either from travel sickness, motion sickness, morning sickness or vertigo.

Their bands are a listed medical device classification 1. They have a stud, which applies gently pressure to the ‘Nei-Kuan’ points, which has allowed many people to feel relief. The bands must be worn on both wrists so that the stud is pressing downwards onto the ‘Nei-Kuan’ point.

What do the NHS say?

New NHS has suggested that acupressure may help reduce nausea and vomiting and can play a useful role in treating Morning Sickness. Acupressure, similar to acupuncture, involves wearing a special band or bracelet on your forearm which may also be effective in reducing symptoms of nausea in pregnancy.

Wear all day long for relief especially when on the move and Myrtle & Maude recommend that you put them on when you first wake up.
